1919 SHORT BIOGRAPHY:
Cult post-punks 1919 remain “head and shoulders above” the rest.
A pioneering goth band through singles such as “Cry Wolf”, their Machine LP, and two Peel sessions in the early ‘80s, 1919 returned after a 30-year hiatus to release 2017’s critically-acclaimed Bloodline LP (Westworld) and 2019’s Futurecide (Cleopatra). The band emerged from quarantine in 2021 with their fourth studio album, welcoming new bass player Ding Archer (PJ Harvey, The Pixies, The Fall) to the fold, and following vocalist Rio Goldhammer’s bid to become Mayor of West Yorkshire (NME). Citizens of Nowhere (Manic Depression) saw the band labelled “head and shoulders above other denizens of the shadowy genre” in Vive Le Rock. After receiving mainstream media attention in 2022 for their fundraising efforts in the wake of the invasion of Ukraine, 1919 returned their powerful live show to the road in 2023, with shows in Los Angeles and Mexico City following their debut appearance at Leipzig’s Wave Gotik Treffen.
TWISTED NERVE BIOGRAPHY: Twisted Nerve are a Scottish punk band formed in Edinburgh by Craig Paterson (vocals), Norbert Bassbin (bass), Colin Moxey (guitar) and Keith Hamilton (drums). As the 80s progressed they developed a unique sound, closer to goth, perhaps with inspiration from Killing Joke and Siouxsie & the Banshees. For some reason, no one had reissued their music until last year when US label Secret Records put out Archive Vol. 1 & 2. The first volume is a straight-up reissue of their 1984 mini-album Séance, which is an impressive document of the band at their height. The second LP, called Never Say Goodbye, compiles their singles, compilation tracks and demos. The sound here is much more raw, still punk almost. Both are now sold out on bandcamp, but some distros like Under the Radar still have copies. The group reformed in the new millennium and are still playing together, they play a rare Glasgow show with cult legends 1919.
GOTHZILLA BIOGRAPHY: GOTHZILLA hail from Dunfermline, Scotland and return to the live scene after an enforced hiatus with main man Tim Jarvis. The band are excited at finally getting to play new tracks from the acclaimed third Gothzilla album called Auras, released in 2020. They also released their new album of awesome covers ‘Gothzilla – Other Peoples Stories’ on 5th May 2023, always a great live act, so do turn up early to catch their set!
