The Zangwills

The Zangwills + Bear Park & Polyvinyl

After meeting at 6th form college in 2017, The Zangwills released their debut single, New Heights in December that year. They have released music steadily since, including 2 EP’s It’s Really Up to You and In Amongst the Glitter.

With a reputation for strong live performances and an army of followers who are prepared to travel in significant number to see them, they have played UK headline dates as far apart as Edinburgh and Portsmouth. Supports have included artists as diverse as Yungblud, The Charlatans and The Lottery Winners. They are now often joined live by Jess Lees on Backing Vocals, bringing an extra element to their live sound.

Shows frequently sell out in advance, including in the Northwest region, headlines at Manchester Club Academy and Academy 3, Telford’s Warehouse (Chester) and nationally at The Grace (London) Sidney & Matilda (Sheffield) and Hyde Park Book Club (Leeds).

Festival appearances have included Dot 2 Dot, Focus Wales, Sound City and Rivfest where they were chosen to headline the Sunday, alongside The Lottery Winners on the Saturday night. They made a 60-minute, Saturday Mainstage appearance at Wychwood Festival in 2020 and became festival favourites, being invited back each year, leading to headlining the second stage in 2023.

The video for their song Judas on the Dancefloor was produced by actor and filmmaker Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) and BAFTA-Winning Director, Lowri Roberts. It went on to win the award for Best International Music Video at Focus Wales Film Festival 2022.

Several music journalists and photographers were asked to suggest whose fans they might appeal to. A consensus was reached that ‘early Arctic Monkeys’ would be a good fit. Luckily, the band do cite them amongst their influences, along with The

Cure, Patti Smith, David Bowie, The Smiths and The Strokes, though the question can still cause a lively debate. In an interesting connection, they are currently recording with Gordon Raphael who produced The Strokes major works with the first song from this collaboration due for release in Autumn 2023.
