Holocaust Memorial Day is now an established act of commemoration when people from all over the world come together to remember the destruction and devastation caused by the Holocaust and more recent genocides and persecution. This Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration camp complex, and the 30th anniversary of the genocide in Bosnia.
York will be embracing the theme ‘For a Better Future’ through a programme that seeks to commemorate the past, explore the continued persecutions of the present and encourage positive actions that will make a difference in the future.
The civic event of commemoration and reflection is free to attend, and will include speeches from Lord Alf Dubs and Dr Alessandro Bucci, along with a reading of the 'Seven Commitments'.
