The Great Blue is about a family struggling with their mother’s progressive dementia amidst the Blitz.
Set in London, the main character of Mother attempts to hide her condition from the family, as her son joins the fight in the Battle of Britain. Meanwhile the Daughter attempts to aid Mother in her illness theough music. As the play progresses the Father is grievously injured from the bombings. The Mother’s reality slowly crumbles away as her condition worsens, only finding comfort in the musical passion she long relinquished. Soon even that proves futile as her mistreated and tarnished mind burns down like the city itself.
