Future Flares Festival: Presentation and discussion - Theatre and sustainability

Presentation and discussion - Theatre and Sustainability by Tom Bailey (Mechanimal) and Feimatta Conteh (Senior Manager Environmental Responsibility, Arts Council England)

Wednesday 22nd January 2025: 1pm-2pm

Grosvenor East Performance Studio (1.04)

As an exploration in green touring, Tom Bailey took a slow journey across Scotland and Norway, to deliver a show in Denmark. He travelled over 1600km, walking and sailing for over two months, over mountains and seas, through forests and plains. On his journey he carried a 16m long sheet with 44,000 extinct and endangered species listed on it, laying the sheet out at various points in the landscape.

Initiated by a presentation on Mechanimal’s work by Tom Bailey, this session will explore the challenges and creative opportunities confronting theatre artists today committed to sustainability in their practice.
