The influence of Aphex Twin on global electronic music is incalculable. Since his early emergence in the early 1990s, the Cornish-born musician Richard D James has been a tireless creative force. His many releases and many pseudonyms have helped genres as diverse as IDM, drill’n’bass to ambient techno to breakcore – but James himself has always been far beyond the pack, his music defined by a giddy virtuosity and puckish humour. For his first London show in two years, Aphex Twin has teamed up with Red Bull for a show at London’s Printworks as part of Red Bull Music Festival. Printworks has become known for its cutting-edge audio and visual displays and this show will be no exception – expect a unique, custom-built stage set featuring lasers and 306 LED panels, which will transmit visuals from long-term Aphex collaborators Weirdcore. The show will also feature support from a number of artists handpicked by Richard D James himself: Manchester electro producer Afrodeutsche, Uganda drum troupe Nihiloxica and ambient artist Caterina Barbieri.
