From the fiery furnaces of Stoke-On-Trent, Spread Your Love is pleased to welcome Formal Sppeedwear; a wonky new-wave teacup ready to be sipped, brimming with a heady infusion of Yellow Magic Orchestra, Neu and DEVO.

Taking creative cues from Brian Eno’s Oblique Strategies and Conny Plank’s experimental recording techniques to flesh out synthpop-oriented melodies, their self-titled EP stomps along with Scary Monsters-era Bowie guitar lines, early 80s Numan basslines and surreal lyrics - “Ready, set on my mark: Tesco Extra, Marks and Sparks” cries Clewlow on 6 Lofty Ash. There’s a versatility to the tracks; with the jolting staccato of The Line counter punched by EP closer and highlight A Dismount’s soaring synth slow burn.

Stoke-on-Trent might not be the first place you’d look to find your favourite new band - The Bootleg Beatles are one of its finest exports if you ask Google - but Formal Sppeedwear are here to show you the kilns are alright.

Support comes in way of JOPY: a Brighton based three-piece led by songwriter Jo Parnell, and released the Planet Zombie EP on Goo on 20th September 2024. Finding early press backing from So Young, DIY, NME, Record Collector, LOUD WOMEN, God Is In The TV and The Most Radicalist - as well as airplay on BBC Radio 6Music (Amy Lamé, Deb Grant) and Radio X (John Kennedy), Jopy have just completed their first UK tour ahead of a slot at Brighton’s Mutations 2024 festival and upcoming shows with the coveted SXSW showcase and Wanderlust Festival 2025 among other.s
