‘basics | volume 2’ is following up its sold out opening night with another evening of stripped back music and poetry at the cosy, candlelit venue, Folklore Rooms. A local publication, ‘We Love Brighton, described volume 1 as “an unforgettable and amazing evening..” and volume 2 promises more of the same, with the versatile line-up containing some of Brighton's best musicians and poets.
Headlining is Brieya May, whose soulful voice can quickly silence a busy room, centering all its attention. Alongside her eccentric live band, the captivating singer brings the audience through a range of moods with an amalgamation of R&B, Soul, Dance and Alternative Music.
Next on the line-up is BabyEleanor, whose expressive, vintage vocals and cutting lyricism is often reminiscent of Amy Winehouse or Eryka Badu. She’ll be performing songs from her long awaited debut EP, ‘Crying Over Spilt Milk’, which is a stark and soulful exploration of love and mental health in the modern age.
Thirdly, the alternative folk artist, REA, will bring a soothing atmosphere to escape into. Her and her 5-piece band smoothly blend soundscapes with soft instrumentals, confessional storytelling and her alluringly delicate voice.
As well as the array of musical talent, they’ll be two poetry sets. One of which is from Sophie Glew, a funny, fast-paced and thought-provoking poet from Brighton.
The show will take place between 7:30pm to 11pm on Saturday, the 13th of July at Folklore Rooms. Only a limited amount of tickets are available so we’d recommend grabbing yours sooner rather than later.
