The Fan 50 presents Depeche Mode:
A completely new type of club night hits London
The Fan 50 launches @ Brixton Jamm on Wednesday September 18th, promising to deliver an entirely unique experience.
“I love a lot of bands so I'm a member of lots of Facebook fan groups,” said Promoter Julian Rolfe, “And The Fan 50 just evolved organically from conversations on the groups. We realised that it would be fun to put on a night where the fans themselves choose what songs we play.”
Purchasing a ticket enables you to vote for your top 5 Depeche Mode songs of all time. The votes are collated into The Fan 50 and then DJ Mark Hex will play the countdown from Number 50 to Number 1 on the night.
“The concept taps into a number of trends,” Rolfe continued. “The power of community in social media groups, the idea that people want to have autonomy in what they listen to and the fact that everybody loves debating a list, right? Except this list isn’t just put together by one journo, it’s put together by the fans so it genuinely reflects the songs that are important to them.”
Other artists / bands in The Fan 50 pipeline include David Bowie, Duran Duran, The Cure, Joy Division / New Order, Gary Numan / Tubeway Army, The Smiths / Morrissey, Madness, Prince and AC/DC.
“There are just so many amazing Depeche Mode songs out there, I’ve been really struggling to select my 5,” Rolfe said. “But make sure you buy your tickets in advance as we close the voting when doors open at 7pm to give us time to work out the running order. And remember – every vote counts in large amounts!”
The Black Celebration will be taking place in the dark and atmospheric club room @ Brixton Jamm and there’s a bar and lovely courtyard to chill out in.
“None of us are getting any younger,” Rolfe commented. “So we’re putting the event on from 7-11pm so we can all have a big old DM singalong and still get to bed at a reasonable hour! It’s just a question of time.”
