Big Flame - Authors talk + Q&A

We’re very excited for our first event of 2025!

We will be joined by authors and former members of the revolutionary socialist organisation Big Flame to hear about their experiences and reflections of their time in the organisation as they present their new book, with plenty of time for questions and discussion.

We have also been loaned several original copies of the Big Flame newspaper from the 70's for people to look at.

🗓️Thurs 16th Jan

🕖7pm, doors 6:30pm

Big Flame were a Revolutionary Socialist Feminist organisation with a working class orientation in England. Founded in Liverpool in 1970, the group initially grew rapidly in the then prevailing climate on the left with branches appearing in a number of cities.

This book, written by two former members, addresses the ideas and experiences of a small revolutionary socialist and feminist organisation.

It reflects on influences (among them Italian Marxism, libertarianism, feminism) and critiques (of Leninism and Trotskyism) that helped shape Big Flame and reflects on its successes and failures. The analysis is interspersed with vignettes from 40 members reflecting on their days in the organisation.
