TC & THE GROOVE FAMILY

TC & The Groove Family are a 10-piece collective whose music celebrates the coming together of cultures, and the community that music can provide for everyone. Driven by drummer Tim Cook (TC) and fronted by Sheffield wordsmith Franz Von, their live shows are powerful and dynamic, creating moments of both euphoria and stillness to keep audiences on their toes. Originally formed in Leeds, their sound reflects the diverse musical and cultural backgrounds at the core of the project, with songs exploring grooves and genres including afrobeat, broken beat, jungle, jazz and grime.

Building on the success of early singles, debut album 'First Home' and follow-up EP ‘WeHave Each Other’ found support from tastemakers including Jamz Supernova, Gilles Peterson and Craig Charles on BBC Radio 6. They’ve also had strong backing from BBCIntroducing and Jazz FM, being hand-picked to play the BBC Introducing stage at Latitude 2024. The band have supported the likes of K.O.G, Nubiyan Twist and YussefDayes en route to becoming one of the most sought-after live acts on the UK jazz circuit. Notable festival performances include Glastonbury, We Out Here, Greenman, Boomtown and WOMAD, and the group have built a steady fanbase, selling out venues including London’s iconic Jazz Café and Leeds’ Brudenell Social Club.

AVIJÉ

Born in Tehran, Iran, AVIJÉ moved to Shrewsbury as a child, later finding her home in Brighton. Growing up around a strong Persian family-oriented culture, AVIJÉ’s first experiences of performing centred around traditional Iranian song and dance at family events.

Iranian censorship imbedded her anti-establishment roots from an early age, listening to RnB, Hip-Hop and Soul. These silky roots have since flourished in Brighton - her home from home. At a time of political uncertainty and smouldering revolution in Iran, her most recent project fans the flames of this fire.

AVIJÉ’s sound is a cumulation of this journey and these experiences, drawing an eclectic mix of reggae, jazz, soul, Latin and 1970s Iranian music. Alongside receiving funding for the project from Arts Council England, AVIJÉ has been featured in Sussex Jazz Magazine and was named Vocalist of the Year by BBC Introducing Shropshire’s Michaela Brown.

Avije carries the emotional gravitas that comes with this social responsibility, giving an emotive, insightful vocal that accompanies this; her catharsis is contagious and informative, providing an outlet for the Iranian voice that is otherwise hushed by mainstream media. She is far from hushed, with her postmodern Shirley Bassey boom that frames the percussion and strings of the rest of her band. Musically and socially she is a guiding voice that needs to be heard.

Listen in solidarity, move with power.

GOETIA

Brighton’s 6-piece Goetia (Go - Ay - Sha) are almost indescribable, influenced by genres such as jazz, hip hop, rock, psychedelia and funk amongst a myriad of other styles.

The combination of each member’s conflicting influences results in an almost infectious energy, a simultaneous tension and fluidity that is best experienced through their electric live shows. Breaking away from the conventions of the current musical landscape, the band aims to create music that is ‘unexpected, yet easily received’, with an emphasis on upbeat rhythms married with psychedelic melodies.

Having recently released ‘Panic!’ Goetia’s debut single, channelling the intense anxiety and uncertainty we all experience from living in such a questionable world. With its raw energy, it’s meant to capture that spiralling mental state and ultimately break through it. Culminating in a reflective commentary on societies’ inability to hold higher powers to their wrongdoings whilst Billy (lead vocals) simultaneously acknowledges his own flaws. The track is an intense, immersive sonic experience, merging multiple genres. As a debut for Goetia, it encapsulates their sound perfectly - raw, thought-provoking and intense.
