Experimental theatre/performance is often perceived as exclusive, focussed more on the esoteric interests of the artist than on the lives of the audience. Yet there is a significant body of artistic practice that does the opposite, applying formally inventive strategies to enhance its commentary on life today, as experienced by those watching.

Bringing together leading figures in the presentation of innovative and socially engaged performance practice, this panel discussion will explore the issues, challenges and rewards of this area of practice, with reference to much of the work programmed into the Future Flares Festival.
