Maceo Parker
+ special guests: Down To The Bone
Support: Jen Kearney
Iconic American funk and soul jazz saxophonist, Maceo Parker is best known for his work with James Brown in the 1960’s as well as George Clinton's Parliament Funkadelic in the 1970’s. Parker was a prominent soloist on many of Brown’s hit records, and was a key figure in his band, playing alto, tenor and baritone saxophones and lyrically immortalised “Maceo, blow your horn”.
Since the early 1990’s he has toured and performed under his own name as well as making guest appearances as part of Prince’s band New Power Generation including the legendary 21 nights in London in 2007. Parker has also performed with Ray Charles, De La Soul, James Taylor, Ani Difranco and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
Down To The Bone were set up by Stuart Wade in 1995. The debut album "From Manhattan to Staten" reached No.2 in the National US Billboard Jazz Chart and helped make Down To The Bone the No.1 top selling independent Jazz artist of 1999.
Further successful albums appeared on Verve Records, Blue Note Records, Shanachie Records, Freestyle Records, & Dome Records. Down To The Bone have collaborated with Brian Auger, Roy Ayers, N'Dambi, Flora Purim, Jeremy Steig, Reuben Wilson and more. Dome Records have just re-issued the band's first three albums in 1 x 3CD set.
Support tonight comes from emerging Soul-Jazz vocalist Jen Kearney who hails from Boston, USA.
