Writing Victoria Wood: An Interview with Jasper Rees

‘She was... an entertainment industry in the body of one woman’.

Author and journalist of the late Victoria Wood, Jasper Rees joins us at the New Adelphi Theatre to share the joys and challenges of commemorating the life of the Bury-born comedian in Let’s Do It: The Authorised Biography of Victoria Wood (2020).

Get ready to laugh and cry as Rees reflects on his journey to ‘place Victoria’s voice at the heart of her own story’ and continue her legacy through editing together previously unreleased material in Victoria Wood: Unseen on TV (2021).

Praise for Let’s Do It: The Authorised Biography of Victoria Wood:

‘Rees pulls off the trick of writing a brilliant tribute while also – somehow, almost – bringing Victoria Wood back to life in all her complicated glory.’ – Guardian
“I love this book. I adored Victoria, and Jasper Rees has almost brought her back to life, so I highly recommend it to all her admirers who miss her desperately. Which is, of course, all of us”. - Dame Esther Rantzen
This utterly absorbing and beautiful book, written with such insight and kindness, moved me hugely' - Julie Walters

ADMISSION: Pay What You Can.

Pay What You Can is an ‘honesty box’ for the theatre. We and the artists will continue to programme and produce high quality events and ask you to pay what you can afford.

As a guide, for those in full time employment we would appreciate you paying between £5 and £8. We also understand people's income can be precarious, hence the lower price options. All revenue from ticket sales for events at New Adelphi Theatre will always go back to support professional artists, through residencies, commissions, touring work or for more bespoke projects where the student experience is enhanced through co-creation with arts professionals. We thank you for all your continued support.

Please note all bookings come with a 50p booking fee.

Please note that all tickets are for unallocated seating.

Please note: checking the Wheelchair User question will also reserve a free seat for an essential companion.

If you require limited mobility access (step-free), please let a member of staff know upon arrival.

Accessibility is extremely important to us at the New Adelphi Theatre. If you have any accessibility requirements, please email Hannah at the box office at h.c.briggs@salford.ac.uk.

When you arrive, the Box Office only needs to take the ticketholder’s name to check you in, however we can also scan any printed ticket or e-ticket you may present.
