Pixey, the Liverpool-based performer, self-taught producer and multi-instrumentalist, is the heir to a lineage of British pop music that is both anthemic and tender. She draws from and reinvents the far-flung sounds which defined her upbringing: the rousing choruses of Britpop, the off-kilter pop of Grimes and the dancefloor-defining instincts of The Prodigy, channelling those influences through a vision that is remarkably fresh. Though her love affair with music began as a toddler, it took a near-fatal viral illness which derailed her formative years to reappraise just how important music was to her life. When she had no control over her body, she could reclaim it by devoting herself to learning to write and produce while in recovery. Pixey introduced herself as a talent to be reckoned with when she released a trilogy of EPs, Colours and Free, Live in Colour and Sunshine State, which resulted in her signing to the tastemaking record label Chess Club (Alfie Templeman, Phoebe Green, Wolf Alice). Even following the triumph of 2022’s mini-album Dreams, Pains & Paper Planes and hit single “Daisy Chain”, this is only a glimpse of this pop visionary’s ambition for the year ahead.
