One of Manchester’s longest running spoken word events, Verbose, returns on Monday 28th April 2025 at the Kings Arms.
Verbose has a proud history of bringing together a vibrant mix of live literature from poetry, prose and everything in between. Verbose welcomes new talent to the open mic alongside established writers and performers wanting to showcase new material, giving audiences the chance to hear work that is on its way to be published or perhaps feature at festivals including Glastonbury, Edinburgh Fringe and many more.
Over the years Verbose has hosted writers who have since gone on to win local, national and international awards for their work or feature on national radio and beyond. A night that offers any audience a chance to see an incredible array of talent month in, month out.
Introducing our headliners for April
Bradley Taylor:
Bradley Taylor is a poet born and based in Birmingham. This year he won the Roundhouse Poetry Slam 2024, the night of which was the most attended poetry slam in history. As well as this, Bradley hosts Overcoat Poetry; a night based in Kings Heath that spotlights local and emerging talent. He has performed at the Hay Festival, Verve Poetry Festival, The Inspirational Youth Awards and has appeared on BBC news and BBC Radio 6 Music with Craig Charles showcasing his work. In the summer of 2024 he was part of photographer Paul Stringers project ‘The City That Spoke To Me’ which displayed a portrait of Bradley and one of his poems across Birmingham train stations. Bradley has been the Poet in Residence for Green Heart Books and in 2025 will release his debut collection with Verve Poetry Press entitled ‘You Missed The Best Part’. He writes for, and about, people.
M. L. Walsh:
M. L. Walsh is a performance poet specializing in comic absurdism and the construction of narrative through voice and characterisation. She has performed across the country including venues such as Birmingham Hippodrome and The Glee Club, as well as headlining every major Birmingham poetry night. In 2023 she was selected for the Verve Collective; a group of 12 poets chosen to represent the evolving Birmingham poetry scene. Earlier this year, M. L. Walsh was also selected to take part in the Community Routes programme ran by Punch Records, culminating in a showcase involving photography, music, art and spoken word. Since finding her form in the poetic monologue, M. L. Walsh has experimented with the translation of performance poetry from stage to page, and how theatrical technique (and its removal) can modify a text. Her debut collection My Dog Has Never Read This was accepted for publication last year by Verve Poetry Press, with the book’s anticipated publication date being March 2025.
Together with a packed and varied open mic line up, April´s Verbose promises to be a night to remember and we recommend securing your seat whilst you still can!
