From Me To Us

I can’t pinpoint the exact moment I realised I wanted to have children. I think I always put it to the back of my mind, because I was single, because I was gay. I mean, they are two pretty big barriers to traditional conception. I don’t think I ever really gave it that much thought, maybe I just presumed that I wouldn’t, couldn’t even…

The law changes all the time. A continuous catalogue of amendments, acts, and appeals, and just one more signature on yet another piece of paper. But, in 2019 something shifted. From one small piece of legislation, an impossible story grew. And for the first time, I could begin to imagine. Who you were, and who I could become.

A playful and poignant performance letter to a future child from their future father.

In 2019, the law in the UK changed to allow for single father surrogacy. Section 54a of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 2008 now allows single people to apply for parental orders, to have access to surrogacy leave and pay, to obtain appropriate birth certificates, and to authenticate their parenthood.

With videography by Ben Horrigan for Studio 91 Media (www.studio91media.co.uk) and music composed by BAFTA and Academy Award winner Chris Benstead (Gravity, The Gentleman, No Time to Die), 'From Me to Us' is an important project that provides the space for discussions about parenthood, whilst documenting the political change against a backdrop of autobiographical experiences.

'From Me To Us' is supported by Arts Council England, Contact, hÅb, and Brilliant Beginnings.

Suitable for all ages.

Admission: Pay What You Can.

Pay What You Can is an ‘honesty box’ for the theatre. We and the artists will continue to programme and produce high quality events and ask you to pay what you can afford.
As a guide, for those in full time employment we would appreciate you paying between £5 and £15. We also understand people's income can be precarious, hence the free and lower price options. All revenue from ticket sales for events at New Adelphi Theatre will always go back to support professional artists, through residencies, commissions, touring work or for more bespoke projects where the student experience is enhanced through co-creation with arts professionals. We thank you for all your continued support.

Please note that all tickets come with a Fatsoma booking fee of 50p.
