Cosmic Sessions: The Cosmic Collective Bank Holiday Weekend Special w/ HODGE [Livity Sound / Houndstooth]

Where our vibe-makers at? Because boy do we have a treat for you!

This Saturday 24th August HODGE will take the reins at Cosmic Kitchen for a special bank holiday weekend celebration, with solid local support from ANTISELF, GABRIELA, & MS OGYNY. 🌻

HODGE 🔥

This Bristol-based DJ and producer is no stranger to making people move, having performed at Block9's IICON Stage at Glastonbury Festival, Berghain, Fabric, Corsica Studios, Boiler Room, and in just about every other destination you can think of.

Renowned for helping shape and continuing to champion a globally appreciated subset of Bristol’s underground electronic music culture, Hodge has imprints on many of the city’s past and present labels, including Timedance, Idle Hands, Tectonic, and perhaps most notably Peverelist's genre-defying and sound system culture inspired Livity Sound

As a producer Hodge is equally versatile: from raw, brutalist techno monsters such as ‘If I Could Stop’ (made in collaboration with Randomer); to 'Whispers' - one of his many collaborations with Shanti Celeste - coined a ‘wistful late-summer anthem’ by Resident Advisor; the carnivalesque delay-ridden dancehall energy of ’Sub 100’; or his and Laurel Halo's breathy yet plucky dub techno/ UK bass track ‘Tru’. Throw thrashy grime, classic house, ambient curiosities such as 'All is Not Lost', or the hauntingly beautiful electronica title track ‘Shadows in Blue’ from his debut album on Houndstooth into the mix and you quickly realise it's probably best not to pigeon-hole.

As this interview in DJ Mag describes, Hodge takes inspiration from his love of sci-fi literature and the natural world around him. This results in out-of-this-world spacey pads, enmeshed with in-this-world organic textures and stripped back percs. A Hodge DJ set tend to reflect and include many of his own productions, so prepare for a heady, dub-wise shuffly techno set with groove-laden moods a’plenty.

Despite it being a relatively short trip down the A38 to Plymouth, Hodge is an artist with far-reaching appeal, so let’s count our bank holiday blessings he’ll be bringing his distinct flavour to Cosmic Kitchen this August. And, as you can see from the image and Boiler Room fundraiser below, the man *really* likes plants - which is always a win in our books. 🌱🪴🌿🍃

SUPPORT 🔥

Inviting local DJ/ producer legend and Polyrhythm radio-host ANTISELF felt like the perfect accompaniment to our headliner, with his predilection for off-kilter breeds of syncopated techno and UK bass. Cosmic’s GABRIELA will guide the dance floor with her love of rolling, hypnotic grooves, and DotFlex founder MS OGYNY will open the floor with a non-compromising dubbed-out throw-down.

This will be an evening of high energy reverberation from start to finish. If you like forward thinking and side-stepping techno, don't snooze....
