Part Halloween bash, part single-release gig, this is alternative pop singer-songwriter Isabel Maria’s biggest headline show yet, and her first in Newcastle. She’ll be debuting a new and expanded sound with her live band, playing an eclectic mix of her old hits and new tunes. Support from Ice Road Trucker and Melanie Baker.
*under 18s MUST be accompanied by an adult*
Isabel Maria:
Since beginning to write at age eleven, Isabel Maria has shape-shifted across genres and stolen the hearts of sad music lovers at all ends of the earth. Now eighteen and ever-passionate, she is firmly settling into the alternative pop genre, and doing it limitlessly. Based in Sunderland, she possesses multiple local and national titles, including the 2024 Alan Hull Award.
Isabel’s first single Catharsis was released in 2021, and since then she has played her music internationally, amassed hundreds of thousands of streams, and gained support from the likes of Rolling Stone, NARC, and BBC Radio.
For fans of Olivia Rodrigo, Phoebe Bridgers, and Gracie Abrams, Isabel pens down to earth songs that champion mental health and emotional vulnerability, sometimes mild and acoustic, and other (more recent) times sugarcoated in a dynamic layer of synth-y studio production.
Melanie Baker:
Melanie Baker is a rising indie artist newcomer based in the North East of England. Her direct and honest lyricism capture themes such as queer identity, self-reflection and the anxieties of modern life. Her songs will take you on an emotional and confusing rollercoaster with her unapologetic and sometimes uncomfortably honest lyrics paired with a sonically alluring, irreverent, grungy grit.
She has supported the likes of dodie, Tessa Violet, Maisie Peters, Will Varley, Jen Cloher, Jesca Hoop and runnner. Her self-released music so far has received radio support from BBC Introducing, BBC Radio , BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 6Music.
Ice Road Trucker:
The solo project of Sunderland songwriter, Eddie Scott (PICNIC, Mt. Misery), Ice Road Trucker was born from a desire to clear some space on his MacBook - by releasing the mounds of demos sitting on their cluttered desktop.
Inspired by pop-punk and power pop outfits of the 90s & 00s, such as Fountains of Wayne, Jimmy Eat World and witty British indie rockers like The Wombats, Eddie found himself accidentally writing a body of fun pop-rock tunes for him and his friends to enjoy. After getting sick of sharing private links and emailing MP3 files, Ice Road Trucker went public.
