Mushroom Language (Work-In-Progress Sharing)

Mushroom Language is a camp eco-horror show about the cycles that shape us - eruption, reproduction and decay. It’s about role-playing the lichen love stories, spore shoot-outs and truffle siren songs found in our forests.

This live-art folk horror follows Jan & Hanna (Tom Halls & Ali Matthews), two otherworldly siblings, as they try to learn 'mushroom language' through dreamlike rituals and eerie power play. Conversations careen between poetic and everyday realms, underpinned by original music from composer Hannah Miller and playful design by Rūta Irbīte and Jamie Simmons.

Mushrooms offer us a lens into a more sustainable future, but nature is hilarious and terrifying. This performance explores the thin line between camp comedy and horror.

Developing with support from Arts Council England & the British Mycological Society. Additional support from Wainsgate Dances, Slung Low, Manchester Jewish Museum, New Adelphi Theatre, Dartington Arts & Good Creator. Produced with support from The Uncultured and Making Room.

Warnings: Suitable for ages 15+. Contains strong language, emotional triggers, audience interaction, flashing lights.

Admission: Free
