a Lesser Version is a songwriter called Liam Evans that plays and releases music with a band that is also called a Lesser Version.
Crafting heartfelt and homemade songs, a Lesser Version stretches from shoegaze to folk via emo and electronica, all with a distinctly DIY ethos. Their music has been supported by the likes of TheNeedleDrop and BBC 6Music, drawing comparisons to an array of artists from The Magnetic Fields and Dinosaur Jr to They Are Gutting a Body of Water and Built like Alaska (real mix and one to see live!)
Having already released two full-length projects, the band are currently applying the finishing touches to their third album slated for release later in 2025!
Scrounge
South London punk duo Scrounge have just dropped a new track 'UTG' ahead of their latest album releasing on Ba Da Bing (Shannon Van Etten, Sarah Mary Chadwick, Dana Gavanski) Channelling the influence of bands like Fugazi, Unwound, and Sonic Youth, “UTG” is a relentless, urgent burst of sound, showcasing Lucy Alexander’s serrated guitar work and Luke Cartledge’s forceful drumming.
They sing about economic inequality, political corruption, environmental destruction, and collective change. “We’re inspired by those around us, and we write about what we care about. Art has always existed for us as a means of catharsis, a way of expressing something we might not be able to otherwise, and we hope our music can be that for other people too,” says Alexander.
Umarells
One late night, post-restaurant shift, Imogen Badrockand Josh Yeung acted on a bleary-eyed creative urge that resulted in a goofy demo about an organic lemonade drink, sparking the formation of the Manchester dream-pop troupe now known as Umarells. After bringing in Ryan Marsden, Sarah Knowles and Fuchsia Summerfield - Umarells sealed the deal during a group trip to Blackpool Pleasure Beach, a thrill-seekers’ “dystopia” that will forever hold a special, sugar-coated place in their hearts. “All roads lead to Blackpool,” they joke. One More Day, the debut EP from Umarells, which was released on 8th November via Fear of Missing Out Records, circles peaks, plummets, and upside-down turns for a front-row seat on the emotional Big Dipper of life. Umarells - their name taken from a very specific Italian word for retired men who watch construction sites - arrange pieces of post-hardcore, shoegaze, Midwest emo, and ‘00s indie-psych into reflections on grief, loss, and failed relationships, all shot through with ocean-deep introspection.
All Maudra
Coming off supporting Crywank at a sold out show! All Maudra (Sophie Gossage) is a singer/songwriter that blends anti-folk + elements of Noise rock with its DIY ethos, unconventional songwriting, and satirical lyrics that often make me question whether or not all lived experience is exactly the same with lines like: "It's not that bad, I'll be leaving soon, you won't have to put up with that smell that is my room." the kind of lyrics that make you reflect on personal experiences in a funny and profound way or maybe my affinity with polarising smells is something i should overcome at my old age. It definitely an act you have to see live!!
