Coltrane Culture

Curated by award-winning saxophonist Denys Baptiste, “Coltrane Culture” is a one-day festival celebrating Coltrane’s life, music and spiritual journey. It brings together some of the UK’s finest Jazz musicians, DJ’s and wellbeing practitioners for a truly, unique, exciting and inspiring experience in the very venue Coltrane performed at in 1961. 

Jazz FM’s Jez Nelson will host a screening of the critically acclaimed John Coltrane documentary “Chasing the Trane” followed by a panel discussion and Q&A, exploring his influence on today’s artists and culture.

In the evening, Coltrane inspired performances will kick off with a solo harp performance from Alina Bzhezhinska, followed by The Gary Crosby Quartet, featuring the inimitable Evan Parker. It will culminate with Denys Baptiste’s, The Late Trane.

The Festival will end with a DJ set by Blacktronica’s Charlie Dark playing an eclectic mix of Coltrane inspired music, and culminate in a set from the legendary Jez Nelson.

There will also be free Hip-hop/Jazz inspired yoga and meditation sessions, live performances by Tomorrow’s Warriors, and a showcase of Coltrane inspired art and music from the students at Big Creative Education.

channelled music through the lens of the divine. His early career was

hampered by addiction until 1957, when he experienced a dramatic spiritual awakening that changed both the course of his life and transformed Jazz on a global scale. The spiritual source of his music has inspired both musicians and listeners alike, making his Jazz truly timeless.’
