An electrifying double-bill featuring some of Scotland’s brightest hip hop talent at the Tooth and Claw:
JACKAL TRADES
Up-and-coming three-piece from Glasgow and London make their first trip up north. Merging electro and hip hop influences to deliver lyrical storytelling that veers from furious, to satirical, to tongue in cheek – but always unmissable - their debut album Need The Character(s) paints a vivid, if not always flattering, image of 21st century life.

Praise for Jackal Trades:
“... an absolute masterpiece. I couldn't overhype it, it's brilliant, it's too brilliant, even I didn't expect this. A gritty, urban, urbane, dirty, dystopian, cerebral, compelling, unique, original album that is truly keeping it real. 'Need The Characters' is officially, far and wide, my album of 2016, unsigned or mainstream” – New Hellfire Club
“I've studied Hip Hop for over 30 years. Anyone with any hip hop knowledge is blown by these lyrics, the beats are brand new but it is ALL about the lyrics to me here.” – Garry Barstow
“A blend of hip-hop, trip-hop, great samples and a list of great independent Scottish producers, this is Mark at his story-telling finest, weaving comedy, politics and the harsh reality of being both promoter and artist in a difficult market.” – Newsnet
SPRING BREAK
The Highland hip hop group needs no introduction – their vaguely outrageous brand of folky funky hip hop has been delighting crowds across the region since 2014. Winners of the 2015 Scottish Alternative Music Award for Best Hip-Hop, Spring Break hand-craft screwball that fuses the genre’s languages of scratching, beat-boxing and lucid lyricism with the foibles of apathy and the implied abuse of aquatic life. 2017 heralds the release of the band's first full length album Tropicaledonia – “a psychedelic and intrepid exploration of the human condition, vividly painted on the ethereal luxury of an altered reality”.

“destined for great things” - Janice Forsyth Radio Scotland
“…they could easily be one of the most exciting bands to come out of the Highlands for some time…from the sound quality to the standard of writing, it’s as confident a debut as you’re going to hear any time this year.” – Inverness Gigs
“You utter bastards.” – also Inverness Gigs
