The View rocketed on to the UK music scene in the mid noughties, fresh faced and ready for Rock’n’Roll, immediately earning comparisons to contemporaries like The Libertines and The Courteeners. With ramshackle charm, along with tunes to conquer indie charts and hearts, they quickly catapulted to number one with their debut album ‘Hats Off To The Buskers’.
One of the biggest albums of 2007, it went platinum selling over 300,000 copies and earning the four school friends from Dundee a Mercury Prize nomination. ‘Hats Off To Buskers’ also took The View into the singles charts with the #3 smash and instant indie classic ‘Same
Jeans’ plus the Top 20 hits ‘Wasted Little DJs’ and ‘Superstar Tradesman’. As their star continued to rise nationally, The View took home the gong for Best Track in 2007 at the NME Awards for ‘Wasted Little DJ’s’.
Building View mania saw the band invited to perform internationally, making appearances in America, Australia and mainland Europe. Two of their subsequent four albums ‘Which Bitch?’ and ‘Cheeky For A Reason’ - also reached the Top 10, while their previous set, ‘Ropewalk’, was produced by Albert Hammond Jr. of The Strokes.
The View also released the ‘Seven Year Setlist’ compilation, which featured numerous other live staples and fan favourites such as ‘Grace’, ‘5 Rebbecca’s’, ‘Shock Horror’ and ‘How Long’.
A high octane decade followed during which The View barely let up, careering through rock ‘n’ roll on-and-off stage, eventually leading to a decision to take a break.
5 years on from their departure gig at Dundee’s Caird Hall, original members Kyle Falconer (vocals/guitar), Kieran Webster (bass/vocals) and Pete Reilly (guitar) signed with Creation Management’s Alan McGee and went on to reunite for a sold-out run of shows in the O2 Academy Glasgow in December 2022.
New material produced by Grammy award winning Youth Martin (The Verve, The Charlatans) is set to be released this year on Cooking Vinyl. The latest album is the product of the band writing and recording with Youth at Space Mountain, Granada last summer.
With 2023 building to be another big one for the band, fans should prepare themselves for a year of fresh, energetic releases and live shows. The View are on fire.
