30 Years of Bee Thousand: Band Of Pricks perform the songs of Guided By Voices
One of the great cult bands of our time, Guided By Voices hit their critical peak in the mid 1990s, breaking through from obscurity with their 1994 lo-fi classic Bee Thousand - a record that regularly appears towards the top end of any "top albums of the 90s" lists in the music press and rightly so. A dream-like collection of twenty short, spontaneous bursts of visionary creativity, it is a truly unique album then, as now.
30 years on from the release of Bee Thousand, UK outfit Band Of Pricks - named lovingly after GBV hit Game Of Pricks and formed at the request of fans to play to European audiences due to the real band's reluctance to tour outside the US - will be descending on The Hope & Ruin to play two live sets - a set of 90s GBV tracks from across the decade, plus Bee Thousand in its entirety.
Band of Pricks is Dan, Sam and Amyas of critically acclaimed late 00's Brighton band 4 or 5 Magicians, plus Ash Babb of Stuart Braithwaite's Silver Moth on drums. Guest performers and collaborators have included Thomas White of Electric Soft Parade/The Waeve/Sea Power; Carl Dalemo and Bjorn Agren of Razorlight; and the BAFTA award winning actor and director Paddy Considine.
Two Sets. 8pm and 9pm.
