Subculture: WDDS, Son Of + more

Music Culture Society (MCS) presents our second edition of the “subculture” series, featuring our most exciting lineup so far. Subculture will take you through atmospheric dubstep sounds through to high energy jungle music.

WDDS

Headlining the event will be WDDS, Manchester based DJ and producer with a unique sound. WDDS (pronounced “Woods”) creates atmospheric dubstep and jungle sets using live drum pads and synths. He incorporates elements of the outdoors into his music through sharing live outdoor sets on instagram and references to his hometown Brighton in his music. Having seen WDDS play at eastern bloc in Manchester, we have been supporters of his sound for a while and are thrilled to have the opportunity to have him play in Sheffield.

Deadman

Sheffield’s own Alex Deadman is a true veteran of the underground music scene, with deep roots in jungle and dubstep culture. Since the 90’s he has been pushing jungle music with his crew, Junglist Alliance. His passion extends into label work, collaborating with Kenny Kid Lib, Tim Reaper, and others across multiple projects, including his own, The Holy Chalice.

Son of

Son of is a DJ and producer originally from Switzerland. She is an alumnus of MCS (when it was known as small ideas) and played her first set as part of the “Small Decks” beginner event series before going on to run the events herself. Since then she has continued to create a meaningful impact through her work, playing events in Sheffield and beyond.

Lizza B

Pushing the new sound of jungle music in Sheffield, Lizza B will bring you a fun, high energy set of breakbeats and bass to close the night. Lizza B has made her mark in all corners of Sheffield’s thriving jungle scene, playing sets for BassOff and Unity Underground, supporting the likes of Sherelle and Samurai Breaks.

Overtone

Opening the event will be Overtone, resident DJ and small decks officer of the music culture society. Overtone has been involved in a variety of events across Sheffield, including the legendary Unity Underground set where he supported the likes of Bakey, Tim Reaper and LTJ Bukem alongside Finkla. He has an ear for deep, soulful and atmospheric dubstep and liquid drum and bass.
