Ministry Of Sound is a name which has simply become synonymous with dance music the world over. Recognised as a leader across the electronic music scene, what started as a nightclub at 103 Gaunt Street London has risen to become a world renowned brand.
Ministry Of Sound nightclub opened its doors on September 21st 1991 in a disused bus garage in London’s Elephant Castle. It was the evolving house scene from across the water in America which inspired co founder Justin Berkmann to bring his innovative clubbing concept to the UK;
His idea of a nightclub set-up was the reverse of many others as, in his words, the installation was to be “100% sound system first, lights second, design third (in that order)”.
There was a new, fresh arrival on the list of London nightclubs and excitement rapidly set about the city. The world’s first club with a room dedicated solely to sound had arrived in the capital and this was the only club in London committed to giving ravers that house sound, a sound only really heard in the USA in cities like Detroit, New York and Chicago.
Today, the club is a hub for ravers from all corners of the globe to unite and celebrate a dance culture which has since spread like wildfire. Sticking to its roots, the club is all about the sound to this day and invites the world’s best DJ’s through its doors and has the best sound system in the world. With 5 huge rooms and a capacity of 1600, Ministry Of Sound remains at the very core of dance music on the planet.
