The Making of Sunbird Records – A Short Film, followed by Q&A. Hosted by William Wolstenholme of BBC Introducing | Wednesday 31st January 2024 | Sunbird Records, Darwen

We are delighted to be able to present as our opening night of Independent Venue Week 2024, a short film ‘ The Making of Sunbird Records’ by Graham Aspinall, featuring music by Jonathan Lindley, Naut, No Teef and Mattu.

Not only are we showing this film that documents how Sunbird Records the venue came to be born, we are also conducting a Q & A to tell the story of Sunbird Records, why it happened, how it happened and what is next for the venue.

Hosted by William Wolstenholme of BBC Introducing Lancs., and featuring a panel of Dale Grogan (Skiddle/1988 Promotions) Graham Aspinall (The Mustard/Film Maker), Erin Caine (Loose Articles) Liam Corran (1988 Promotions), Steven Lindley (Sunbird Records) and Nathan Howard (Sunbird Records) all original members of the neo-tribe culture cultivated by founder Jonathan Lindley.

The evening presents a chance for these good folks to tell us why this venue is so important - from it’s origins as a label to becoming a vehicle for Steven Lindley and Ian Almond to release World/Fusion music to its incarnation as a DIY live music venue in the heart of Darwen in 2016, transforming a decommissioned bank in the alternative music and culture area that it stands as today as well as why grassroots music venues are so important culturally across the country.

As well as the screening there will also be the opportunity to see and hear some unreleased music from “Writhing’ a project that was worked upon by Jonathan Lindley and Liam Corran.
