Darwen Music Projects is delighted to be back for a Thursday night at Sunbird Records with an amazing line up featuring One Sided Horse, Carol Hodge and Vice Vera.

One Sided Horse

One Sided Horse was formed in 2015 by Mark Whiteside, his songs have been likened to Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, David Bowie and even Neil Diamond. A meeting with Embrace bass player Steve Firth led to him working with the whole band and in 2015 they released the acclaimed album Between Light and Space. Since releasing the album One Sided Horse has supported Dodgy on a full UK Acoustic Tour and played solo gigs with The House of Love, Wire and Embrace.

He is also the singer Evil Blizzard and a new project The Opening Song: A two-piece project that is based around Piano and beautiful soundscape music.

In 2022 Mark started working with Icelandic singer Kalli to release some joint music.

Carol Hodge

Carol Hodge is a seven-fingered, piano-pounding, Yorkshire-dwelling Singer-Songwriter. Think Regina Spektor meets Billy Bragg, but with fewer digits and a continuous existential crisis, sandwiched between bitter irony and relentless optimism. You won’t know whether to laugh or cry, but will definitely feel something. In case she looks familiar, Carol recently won Classic Rock’s Track Of The Week reader vote, is a long-term collaborator with Crass founder Steve Ignorant, plays keys for Texan country rock star Ryan Hamilton and has guested with Ginger Wildheart, Headsticks and The Membranes.

Vice Vera

A solo wailing banshee wrestling an off-kilter guitar. Searching vocal melodies, percussive textures and loop trickery create an insistent, joyous and confrontational sonic landscape. For fans of PJ Harvey/Siouxsie Sioux.
